DIY taco night versus a caterer

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and handles allergen information for you.

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up in the kitchen. With a caterer, you get the food and drinks without the work.

About our taco bar hire in Rustington

Our taco bar travels to events across Rustington and the surrounding area: marquees, barns, gardens, halls and workplaces, wherever there is room for the table. At barn parties and leaving and retirement parties, we can serve slow-cooked fillings kept hot, burrito bowls and a build-your-own taco bar.

A place like Rustington may have a hall or a club nearby if your garden is small; the station needs a level surface, the venue’s permission and somewhere to unload. We prepare everything fresh for your event and serve it straight from our food truck or trailer.

How the day works

From set-up to service, we look after everything you’ve booked from us, so you can spend time with your guests. In Rustington, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so a summer taco bar outside normally runs in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so guests will need light to see the fillings and toppings.

  1. Tell us the date, the venue, how many guests and any diets.
  2. We plan the fillings and toppings with you and quote for them.
  3. We agree where the table goes and where our vehicle can unload.
  4. Our staff set up the station, keep the fillings hot and top up the bar through service.
  5. After the last tacos, we clear the station away.

Preparing for the day

  • Check gates and access routes are wide and high enough
  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to park
  • Find out what power and water are available

Getting a price

Not sure what you need yet? That is fine: tell us about the occasion and the guests, and we will suggest a menu. To start, tell us about it on our contact page.

Prices and what affects them

Every event is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Timings and hours
  • Whether you add a drinks bar or food
  • Guest numbers
  • Plates, napkins and cutlery

Larger events can cost less per head, because the set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

What we need to know

When you contact us, it helps to tell us:

  • A picture of the space, if it’s a garden or field
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • Expected numbers
  • The venue or postcode

We quote for each event separately, so the price fits what you actually want. To ask for one, fill in our quote form.

Is taco bar hire right for your event?

Plated meals depend on a kitchen and a team of waiting staff. A taco bar needs a serving spot, somewhere close to unload and the venue’s agreement, with power and water confirmed when you book. Extra dishes, drinks and longer service are priced on request, so you choose what goes in.

What you get with us

  • Service planned around your numbers
  • A truck or trailer that comes to you
  • We cover Rustington and the whole of West Sussex
  • Set-up planned with you and your venue

See our prices page or our guide to catering costs.

Diets, allergies and planning

Every guest is catered for, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan included. To make it work smoothly:

  • Confirm a loading spot close to the bar
  • Plan the taco bar around speeches and timings
  • Put allergies in writing for us
  • Have anyone with a severe allergy speak to us first

Fillings are kept hot and tortillas warmed in batches.

Add burrito bowls for guests who’d rather skip tortillas.

Toppings

The toppings are where guests make each taco their own.

Warm tortillas

Soft corn and flour tortillas, kept warm. The corn ones suit gluten-free guests.

Rustington: venues, access and set-up

Rustington is about 5 miles west of Worthing, in West Sussex. For an event in Rustington, we can park up at venues, fields, drives and courtyards in and around Rustington. We cover 371 places across West Sussex. Our truck and trailer cover the area from Rustington to Chichester (12 miles away).

When the service is at a church such as The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, the taco bar would be set up at the reception venue rather than the church. With the B2140 nearby, getting the taco bar to Rustington is simple for us. Venues in and around the South Downs National Park, within about 7 miles of Rustington, sometimes have strict rules about catering and vehicles. Check with yours where a taco bar station and our truck or trailer could go. With the sea within about 2 miles, a taco bar at a coastal venue is an option. Open toppings and a sea breeze don’t mix, so a sheltered or indoor spot is best.

Anywhere in BN16 and BN17, we can bring the truck or trailer to your guests, from busy streets to quiet lanes. Local streets include Church Road, The Street and Station Road; for an event at home on any of them, tell us where the truck or trailer can park. With the B2140 close by, Rustington is simple for us to get to with the truck or trailer for your event. Nearby, we also cater events in Littlehampton (1 mile west), Toddington (1 mile north-west), Poling (2 miles north), Wick (2 miles west) and Lyminster (2 miles north-west). Larger places within reach include Worthing (5 miles east), Bognor Regis (8 miles west), Chichester (12 miles west), Selsey (13 miles south-west), Shoreham-by-Sea (11 miles east) and Lancing (8 miles east).

A little further out are Zachary Merton Hospital (under half a mile south-east) and Lyminster Siege Castle (3 miles north-west). The countryside around Rustington includes WWT Arundel and Highdown Hill.

  • Schools near Rustington include The Littlehampton Academy (1.2 miles west) and Littlehampton College (1.2 miles west)

Organising for someone else?

Organising a club, school or community event in Rustington? Service from a truck or trailer is quick, even for a crowd, and the menu can suit most diets. Give us the details and we’ll suggest a plan.

If you’re organising for someone else, whether you’re a planner, an office manager or an event organiser, we are happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It keeps things simple.

Before you choose a spot

Every venue is different, so we ask about the space before we confirm. In general, we need:

  • Room nearby to park and unload our vehicle
  • A level area for the taco-bar table
  • The venue’s agreement for the taco bar and our vehicle

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Menu ideas

  • Corn and flour tortillas
  • Pickled onions and toppings
  • Tortilla chips
  • Vegan fillings
  • Two to four fillings
  • Salsas and guacamole

Common questions in Rustington

How far is Rustington from central London?

Roughly 51 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it.

Do you cater at coastal events near Rustington?

Yes, with permission for the spot and firm ground for the truck or trailer. Seafront and beach spots usually need permission, and wind is the main thing to plan for.

What if the weather’s bad?

Rain doesn’t typically stop service from the truck or trailer. It is worth planning a covered area for guests, and let us know if the ground gets soft after heavy rain.

Do you bring plates and cutlery?

We confirm that with your quote. Tell us whether your venue has crockery or you’d prefer disposables.

What guest numbers do you cater for?

Our service generally suits around 50 to 400 guests, while smaller parties are looked at case by case. Share your headcount and we’ll size the bar to suit.

Does the taco bar need the truck on site?

The taco bar can be served from a table or station away from the truck. We still need to park our vehicle nearby to unload, and the venue’s agreement.

Do you stay to run the taco bar?

The taco bar is served from a table or station by our staff, so your hosts do not need to. We pack it away afterwards.

Can we have a taco bar at our wedding?

A taco bar works well for a relaxed wedding breakfast. Service is timed around speeches and photos. Read our taco bar guide for ideas.
