About our taco bar hire in The Sands

A taco bar suits mixed diets well, as fillings and toppings are kept in separate dishes. We plan vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free choices, and corn tortillas suit gluten-free guests, plus allergen information for every dish. At marquee parties and birthday parties, we can serve fresh salsas, burrito bowls and a build-your-own taco bar and more.

Somewhere as small as The Sands, a garden, barn or hall can host a taco bar. If the truck can’t get close, we can set the station up nearer your guests, as long as we can unload within a short walk. We serve from the hatch of our food truck or trailer, or from a serving station, and we plan service so the queue keeps moving.

Before you choose a spot

We serve from a truck or trailer, so where we park matters. Here’s what we look for:

  • Room nearby to park and unload our vehicle
  • A flat spot for the taco-bar station
  • Permission from the venue for us to set up

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before booking.

Popular choices

  • Pickled onions and toppings
  • Tortilla chips
  • Two to four fillings
  • Vegan fillings
  • Corn and flour tortillas
  • Salsas and guacamole

How it compares

Compared with a hog roast or carvery, a taco bar handles vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free guests without separate plates. Larger events can cost less per head, because the set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

What you get with us

  • Food and drinks from one caterer, if you want both
  • Allergen information for every dish
  • Menus for gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan guests
  • Service planned around your numbers

Take a look at our pricing or the cost guide.

What happens on the day

Guests tend to gather around the truck, so we will help you choose a spot with room for a queue. We can serve in the rain, though guests will want somewhere covered to stand or sit. Around midsummer it stays light in The Sands until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so an outdoor taco bar in summer is normally served in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, plan good lighting over the station.

  1. Start with the essentials: the date, venue, headcount and diets.
  2. We suggest fillings, salsas and toppings for the bar and send a quote.
  3. Before the day, we confirm the serving spot, unloading, power and water with the venue.
  4. We set out warm tortillas, hot fillings, salsas and toppings, and guests help themselves.
  5. When service finishes, we clear the table and pack the vehicle.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us what power and water the site has
  • Get the venue’s permission for us to park and serve
  • Tell us about narrow gates or low branches

Planning help

Diets, allergies and planning

Most events have a mix of diets. To cater well for them:

  • Put allergies in writing for us
  • Have anyone with a severe allergy speak to us first
  • Decide where the table goes before the day
  • Have tables and seats ready for guests to eat at

Each dish is labelled, and allergen information is kept at the bar.

Add burrito bowls for guests who’d rather skip tortillas.

Planners, venues and businesses

If you’re organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a festival organiser, we’ll work directly with you and the venue. It saves passing messages back and forth.

If your event is in a public space, such as a park, check what permission you need first. We’ll provide the information the landowner or council asks for from us.

Prices and what affects them

Here’s what makes the biggest difference to the price:

  • Guest numbers
  • What the venue already provides
  • How long we’re needed on site
  • What’s on the menu

There is no one-size-fits-all price for taco bar hire. A short lunch service for a team is a different job from a full wedding day. Contact us for a quote.

  • What you’d like on the menu
  • Gate widths, slopes and the ground
  • Approximate guest numbers, including children
  • Where the event is

Most quotes start with a few simple details: date, location, guest numbers and diets. Contact us for a quote: just send a quick message through our quote form.

Should I do it myself?

Weighing up a DIY taco night against a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. Contact us for a quote to compare.

Plenty of people try a DIY taco night at home. The usual problems are cold tortillas, running out of a popular filling and a host stuck at the stove. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us serve.
