Planning an event in Chinatown?

DIY taco night versus a caterer

You can host your own taco night for a crowd, but it takes planning. There are fillings to slow-cook, tortillas to keep warm and salsas to make. Read our guide to taco bars.

Running your own drinks table is one option, but someone still has to mix, pour and keep an eye on it all evening. See our margarita bar guide.

About our food truck hire in Chinatown

The hatch menu is agreed with you: tacos and burritos, with bowls, nachos or quesadillas if you like, finished with salsas and guacamole. For leaving parties and birthday parties, we can serve burrito bowls, fresh salsas and guacamole and quesadillas for your guests.

For a private or work event in Chinatown, our food truck or trailer parks up and guests order at the hatch. Let us know about the access, any barriers and the width of the way in, and send a photo if you can. We prepare everything fresh for your event and serve it straight from our truck or trailer, so guests get it at its best.

The process

It is a relaxed, well-organised set-up. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, get the serving area ready, and serve without fuss. At midsummer, it stays light in Chinatown until about 9:20pm, and by late September sunset is about 7:05pm. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, plan lighting where guests queue at the hatch.

  1. Ask us whether your date is available.
  2. We agree a hatch menu and send a quote.
  3. We confirm the parking spot and the route in.
  4. On the day, guests order at the hatch and we cook to order.
  5. We pack down and drive away when service ends.

How to prepare

  • Confirm the venue allows outside caterers
  • Choose a level, firm spot for the truck or trailer
  • Let us know the timings for the day

Diets, allergies and planning

Allergies and diets are taken seriously. Help us by following these steps:

  • Look into parking permissions if the truck can’t go off-road
  • Ask guests with severe allergies to speak to us beforehand
  • Have shelter ready in case of rain
  • Count children separately

Service starts when your timings say.

A taco-bar station can sit next to the truck for a wedding breakfast or lunch.

Chinatown: parking, access and venues

Chinatown is about 1 mile east of City of Westminster, in Greater London. We serve at events in gardens, halls and venues around Chinatown. Chinatown is one of 764 places in Greater London we cover.

For guests coming by train, Tottenham Court Road station is in Chinatown itself. Around Chinatown, historic houses include Benjamin Franklin House (less than half a mile south-east) and Burlington House (less than half a mile south-west). Listed venues often control where vehicles go, so raise food truck hire at your first visit.

Wherever your event is in W1F, W1D and W1T, we can bring the truck or trailer to your guests. Whether your event is on Duck Lane, Drury Lane and Bruton Lane or anywhere nearby, we’ll plan where to park and serve. You’ll find Chinatown on the A4 and A301, which makes it straightforward to bring the truck or trailer. For events just outside Chinatown, we cover Soho (1 mile north), St James's (1 mile south), West End (1 mile north-east), Seven Dials (1 mile north-east) and St Giles (1 mile north-east). Further out, we also cater in Kensington (3 miles west), Shoreditch (3 miles north-east), Walthamstow (7 miles north-east), Hoxton (3 miles north-east), Whitechapel (3 miles east) and Hampstead (4 miles north-west).

A little further out are St James Workhouse (under half a mile north-west) and Leverian collection (within half a mile south-east). Not far away are Barnsbury Wood and St. James's Park Lake.

  • Nearby schools include LITE Regal International School (0.6 miles west) and Harris Westminster Sixth Form (0.8 miles south)
  • Local pubs include Waxy O'Connor's pub (within half a mile south-west)
  • Local facilities include London Library (within half a mile south-west) and Westminster St James (less than half a mile south-west)

Why choose food truck hire in Chinatown?

Most guests have seen a burger van. A Mexican food truck offers something less expected. The price depends on guest numbers, the menu and how long you’d like us to serve, plus any add-ons and the location. We quote for each event individually.

Why book with us

  • Quick, friendly service from the hatch
  • A plan agreed before the day
  • A clear quote
  • Everything served fresh from the hatch

Read our prices page and our guide to catering costs.

Where the truck can go in Chinatown

We serve from a truck or trailer, so where we park matters. Here’s what we look for:

  • A clear area for a queue at the hatch
  • Firm, level ground or hardstanding where the truck or trailer can park
  • Arrangements for power and water, agreed when you book

London streets around Chinatown can be narrow and busy, and all of Greater London sits inside the ULEZ. Tell us about loading, permits and any parking suspension when you enquire.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we will advise before booking.

Whatever the occasion, our truck or trailer can be the centre of it. We’re happy to cater:

Prices and what affects them

Pricing is straightforward once we know the basics:

  • Your choice of food and drinks
  • Timings and hours
  • Parking and the route in
  • Adding food to drinks, or drinks to food

Your choice of food and drinks affects the price, so tell us what you have in mind. We will suggest options to suit your budget.

Details that help

To speed things up, tell us:

  • Your menu ideas
  • The date and rough timings
  • The venue or postcode
  • Diets and allergies you know about

It is easy to get a price: share your date, venue, numbers and diets. We’ll send you a clear quote and a suggested menu.

Questions from Chinatown

Where would you park in Chinatown?

It can be tricky, so tell us about parking bays, permits or a driveway. Some streets may need a parking suspension from the council, and all of Greater London is inside the ULEZ.

Could your truck or trailer park at our home in Chinatown?

That depends on the space. A drive, a courtyard or a suspended bay can all work, as long as the truck or trailer can reach a level spot. Tell us what’s outside, and remember the ULEZ covers all of Greater London.

Which areas do you serve?

London and the South East: Greater London, Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes and Oxfordshire, including Chinatown.

How is the food prepared?

We cook to order in our food truck or trailer kitchen, or serve from a taco bar. Slow-cooked fillings are prepared in advance and kept hot on site.

Do you need power and water?

Let us know what’s available on site, such as a supply from the venue near where we will park, and we’ll confirm the arrangements with your quote.

Is the food very hot?

That is your choice: we can keep the main dishes mild, with hotter salsas served separately. Read more about how spicy Mexican food is.

How many guests can the truck serve?

Truck and trailer service usually suits around 50 to 400 guests. Smaller gatherings are looked at case by case.

How is private hire different from festival trading?

A private hire is booked and quoted for you, so we do not serve passers-by. Organisers wanting us to trade at their event can see our festival page.
