DIY taco night versus a caterer

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up in the kitchen. Booking a caterer means you can relax with everyone else.

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and handles allergen information for you.

How our food truck hire works in Cranmore

Food truck hire suits weddings, milestone birthdays and staff events, and any gathering where guests want hot food without a sit-down meal. It suits private outdoor parties and retirement parties, with burritos, vegan tacos and burrito bowls.

Near Cranmore, a hired food truck in a field or garden suits private parties and work away days alike. Guests queue at the hatch, so have some cover ready in case of rain. You’ll know what’s included before you book: menu, timings and any add-ons.

Step by step

When we arrive, we position the truck or trailer and get the serving area ready. We’re ready to serve at the agreed time, so everything runs to your schedule. At midsummer, it stays light in Cranmore until about 9:20pm, and by late September sunset is about 7:10pm. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so the queue by the hatch needs lighting.

  1. Check our availability for your date.
  2. You get a menu for the hatch and a quote.
  3. The spot and the way in are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day, guests order at the hatch and we cook to order.
  5. We pack down and drive away when service ends.

Hiring a food truck in Cranmore

Cranmore is about 6 miles south-east of Lymington, in the Isle of Wight. For food truck hire in Cranmore, we plan around your venue and timings: a clear quote, agreed timings and fresh service on the day. Cranmore is one of 125 places in the Isle of Wight where we can bring food truck hire. We cater right across the region, from Cranmore to Southampton (14 miles away).

Around Cranmore, historic houses include Swainston Manor (3.4 miles south-east) and Mottistone Manor (4.2 miles south). Historic houses and estates usually have firm rules on vehicles, so ask where a hired food truck could park before booking. With the sea within about 5 miles, a hired food truck at a seaside venue is an option. The truck or trailer needs firm ground rather than sand or shingle, and seafront spots normally need permission.

Food truck hire in PO41 is planned around your venue and access and your guests. We can cater an event on streets such as Solent Road, East Close and Cranmore Avenue. Neighbouring places where we cater events include Hamstead (1 mile north-east), Shalfleet (1 mile south-east), Bouldnor (1 mile west), Yarmouth (2 miles west) and Thorns Beach (4 miles north). We also cater in nearby towns such as Newport (6 miles east), Ryde (12 miles east), Cowes (7 miles north-east), Sandown (13 miles east), Shanklin (13 miles south-east) and Ventnor (13 miles south-east). Some remote venues need extra planning, so ask early about your event.

Before you choose a spot

No two venues are the same, so we ask about the space before we confirm. Generally, we look for:

  • Level, solid ground for the vehicle
  • Arrangements for power and water, agreed when you book
  • Somewhere for guests to sit or stand and eat

Cranmore is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we’ll plan the journey and access for the truck or trailer.

Not sure about your space? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.

How to compare caterers

Planning for every diet

Nearly every event has some special diets. To cater well for them:

  • Confirm allergies with us in writing
  • Measure gates and look for low branches on the way in
  • Check early that your venue allows food trucks
  • Look into parking permissions if the truck cannot go off-road

We keep allergen information for every dish at the hatch.

Quesadillas make an easy option for children, if you’d like a kids’ choice.

Questions from Cranmore

Do you cater at coastal events near Cranmore?

Yes, with permission for the spot and firm ground for the truck or trailer. Seafront and beach spots normally need permission, and wind is the main thing to plan for.

Will you travel to a small place like Cranmore?

Yes, we cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking for the truck or trailer.

Do you come to Cranmore?

We do. We serve at events in Cranmore and across the Isle of Wight. Tell us your date and we will check availability.

Is the food very hot?

We can keep it mild, and hotter salsas go on the side for guests who like heat.

What happens if it rains?

The truck or trailer can serve in the rain, but guests need somewhere covered to eat and drink, like a marquee or gazebo.

Is food truck hire good for weddings?

A food truck suits a relaxed wedding well, especially in the evening. We will check access and timings with your venue.

Can we have a build-your-own taco bar?

Yes, a taco bar is one of the ways we serve. Tell us about your space and numbers and we will recommend how to serve.

Is the food suitable for children?

Of course. We can keep dishes mild, and simple options such as quesadillas or nachos can be part of the menu. Tell us how many children are coming.

Comparing your options

Hiring a food truck is different from finding one at a festival. At public events, anyone can buy; a private hire means your guests, your menu and your timings. A food truck can be a practical alternative to plated catering, as there’s no kitchen to hire. Ask us for a quote.
