About our food truck hire in New Zealand

Guests walk up to the hatch, order and take their food away hot. It keeps things easy and relaxed. We serve burrito bowls, fresh salsas and guacamole and tacos from the hatch, which works well for parties in venue grounds and christenings and family parties.

For a rural spot like New Zealand, food truck hire needs a little planning: gate widths, soft ground and the route from the road all matter. We confirm power and water arrangements with you. Everything is prepared fresh for your event and served from our food truck or trailer.

What’s on the menu

Salsas and guacamole

Guacamole and a choice of salsas, freshly made.

Tacos from the hatch

A taco is ideal food from a truck.

DIY taco night versus a caterer

Plenty of people try a DIY taco night at home. Common snags are cold tortillas, uneven quantities and the host missing the party. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us serve.

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party serving. With a caterer, you get the food and drinks without the work.

It feels informal but well looked after, because we cook, serve and clear away.

Questions to ask before booking

Diets, allergies and planning

Allergies and diets are taken seriously. Help us by following these steps:

  • Tell us about coeliac guests
  • Check parking and loading rules for street locations
  • Tell us when guests should eat
  • Confirm the venue accepts outside caterers and vehicles

Running late? Tell us, and we will work around it.

Add a build-your-own taco bar beside the truck.

What affects the price in New Zealand

Every event is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • Travel, parking and access
  • Whether you need disposables
  • How many staff you need
  • What’s on the menu

Catering from a truck or trailer can be a practical alternative to a sit-down meal, as there’s no kitchen to hire. Ask us for a quote.

Details that help

When you contact us, it helps to tell us:

  • Your date and when you want service to start
  • Diets and allergies you know about
  • What power and water the site has
  • What you’d like on the menu

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many guests, plus any dietary needs, and you will get menu ideas and a price. To get started, send us your details through our quote form.

What we need at the venue

Before the day, we will agree where we park and serve. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • Power and water, confirmed with each booking
  • Some space between the truck and nearby homes
  • Any parking or loading permission needed for street locations

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Comparing your options

A DIY barbecue keeps a host at the grill. With a hired truck, we do the cooking. If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we’ll suggest a menu to match. A simple menu can still feel generous.

What happens on the day

Here’s how the day typically runs: we arrive and set up, service opens at the agreed time, and your guests are served fresh until service ends. At midsummer, it stays light in New Zealand until about 9:25pm, and by late September sunset is about 7:05pm. In December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so the queue by the hatch needs lighting.

  1. Tell us the date, the location, rough numbers and any diets.
  2. We check availability and send a menu and a quote for hiring the truck or trailer.
  3. Where the truck or trailer will stand, the route in, and power and water are all agreed in advance.
  4. On the day we drive in, set up and serve to order from the hatch.
  5. When service ends, we pack up and leave the spot clear.

Preparing for the day

  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to park
  • Get the venue’s permission for us to park and serve
  • Let us know the timings for the day
