Mexican catering in Puckaster

Taco catering in Puckaster: local tips

Puckaster is about 6 miles south-west of Shanklin, in the Isle of Wight. Across the PO38 area, we will come to your venue or site. We serve in 125 places across the Isle of Wight. You can also see our page for Southampton, about 24 miles away.

Parents planning a fundraiser at a school like Niton Primary School might find a Mexican street-food truck draws families in. With the sea within about 4 miles, a beach-side event might appeal. Promenades and beaches generally need permission, and the truck or trailer has to park on firm ground, not sand.

Mexican catering in PO38 is planned around your venue and access and timings. From Puckaster Lane and Undercliff Drive or anywhere nearby, we’ll plan where to park and serve. Occasions we cater for in Puckaster

Food is cooked to order and served hot, rather than sitting out on a buffet table.

Almost any gathering can work with a truck or trailer. People in Puckaster can book us for occasions like:

  • School fairs and fundraisers
  • Family gatherings and christenings
  • Engagement and anniversary parties
  • Wedding breakfasts and evening food

When the service is at a church such as Church of St. John the Baptist, the food generally happens elsewhere, at a field, hall or garden with room for the truck.

What your quote should include

  • If the price includes VAT
  • Exactly what’s included in the price
  • Allergen information for each dish
  • How bad weather is handled

How to compare caterers

Comparing your options

Compared with a hog roast or barbecue, tacos make vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free guests easier to cater for, because fillings and toppings are kept separate. A food truck can be a practical alternative to plated catering, because it needs no venue kitchen. Ask us for a quote.

For event organisers in Puckaster

If you run the same event each year, tell us your dates early, so we can check the date.

Many venues have rules for outside caterers: where vehicles can park, access times and the paperwork they need. Tell us what your venue needs and we will work to it.

What we need at the venue

We serve from a truck or trailer, so where we park matters. Here’s what we look for:

  • A flat, firm spot where the truck or trailer can stand
  • Agreement from the venue to bring a food truck or trailer on site
  • Power and water, which we confirm with you for each booking

Puckaster is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we’ll plan the journey and access for the truck or trailer.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we will advise.

DIY taco night or a caterer?

Some hosts like to do it themselves. Common snags are cold tortillas, uneven quantities and the host missing the party. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us serve.

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, with allergen information for every dish.

Planning for every diet

Nearly every event has some special diets. To cater well for them:

  • Flag anyone with coeliac disease
  • Confirm the venue is happy to have a catering vehicle
  • Think about cover for guests in wet weather
  • Tell us what other food is being served

Once everyone has eaten, we tidy up and pack away.

Ask us about plates, cutlery and serving staff and we will set out what we can do in your quote.

Common questions in Puckaster

Could you come to a seaside event near Puckaster?

We can, given firm ground and the landowner’s permission. Beaches and promenades typically need the council’s agreement, so check that first.

Can you cater a reception after a service at Church of St. John the Baptist?

Yes. The church itself is not where we’d set up, but a hall, field or garden close by with room for the truck or trailer can work well. Let us know the reception address and we will check the access.

Can you cater for special diets?

Yes. There are vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free options, and corn tortillas suit gluten-free guests. Allergen information is available for every dish.

Do you do a taco bar?

We can. We can set up a build-your-own taco bar, served from the truck or a serving table, with fillings, salsas and toppings to choose from. Read our taco bar guide.

Can you serve in bad weather?

We serve from the truck or trailer whatever the weather, but guests will need somewhere covered to eat.

How big an event can you cater?

It depends on the menu and how long service runs, but around 50 to 400 guests is the usual range. Tell us your numbers and we’ll advise.

Do you do a drinks bar?

Yes. The drinks bar offers margaritas, Mexican beer, aguas frescas and alcohol-free drinks. We will check the licensing with you.

When do you arrive?

We arrive in good time to set up before service. The length of service is agreed when you book.

How the day works

When we arrive, we position the truck or trailer and get the serving area ready. We’re ready to serve at the agreed time, so everything runs to your schedule. Around midsummer it stays light in Puckaster until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. In December it is dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting around the truck and the queue.

  1. Share the date, the venue and how many are coming.
  2. We plan a menu that covers every diet.
  3. We confirm the way in and where we’ll park.
  4. Guests order at the hatch or build their own at the taco bar.
  5. We clear our serving area when everyone is fed.

Preparing for the day

  • Give us your final numbers and diets
  • Choose a level, firm spot for the truck or trailer
  • Share the running order, including any speeches
