Taco bar hire in Newtown

Taco bar hire in Newtown, from our truck or trailer

Fillings are agreed with you, such as pork carnitas, chicken tinga or beef birria, with a vegan filling like black bean and sweet potato or spiced mushroom. For barn parties and evening receptions, we will put together a menu of pickled onions and toppings, a build-your-own taco bar and burrito bowls and more.

Near Newtown, a hall or club may suit a taco bar if your own space is tight; we need the venue’s permission, a level spot and somewhere to unload. We serve from the hatch of our food truck or trailer, or from a serving station, and we plan service so the queue keeps moving.

The process

The truck or trailer needs a level, firm spot with access to drive in, and we agree power and water arrangements before the day. A photo of the space helps. Around midsummer it stays light in Newtown until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so a summer taco bar outside normally runs in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so guests will need light to see the fillings and toppings.

  1. Send us the date, venue and numbers.
  2. We plan the fillings, salsas and toppings with you.
  3. We confirm the table spot and where we’ll unload.
  4. Our staff set out the bar and guests build their own tacos.
  5. When everyone has eaten, we pack up.

How to prepare

FAQs for Newtown

Is Newtown close to London?

It’s about 37 miles from central London, and inside the area we cover.

Which station should guests use for Newtown?

Reading station, about 1.1 miles west of the centre.

Do you do margaritas?

Yes. The drinks bar can be added to food or booked on its own. We will check the licensing for alcohol with you.

What about power on site?

Let us know what’s available on site, such as a supply from the venue near where we’ll park, and we will confirm the arrangements with your quote.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We pack down and leave our area tidy. Let us know the venue’s rules on waste and we will confirm the arrangements with your quote.

How is the food prepared?

We slow-cook fillings ahead, then finish them and keep them hot at your event. The tortillas are warmed on site, and the salsas and guacamole are made fresh.

Do you have options for kids?

Yes. We can keep dishes mild, and simple options such as quesadillas or nachos can be part of the menu. Tell us how many children are coming.

Can you do gluten-free food?

Yes, we offer gluten-free options, using corn tortillas. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance so we can explain how we prepare their food.

DIY taco night versus a caterer

If you do it yourself, work out quantities first: our guide to how many tacos per person helps. Keep warmed tortillas covered, and label anything containing allergens.

Not sure whether to do it yourself or book a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. Ask us for a quote and compare.

What we need at the venue

The route in matters as much as the spot itself. We look for:

  • Room for the bar alongside the vehicle, if booked together
  • Space for a line of guests at the bar
  • Power and water, which we confirm when you book

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before you book.

What we offer

  • Pickled onions and toppings
  • Vegan fillings
  • Salsas and guacamole
  • Tortilla chips
  • Two to four fillings
  • Corn and flour tortillas

Prices and what affects them

Pricing is straightforward once we know the basics:

  • Whether you add a drinks bar or food
  • The number of people
  • The menu you choose
  • Timings and hours

For planners, venues and organisers

If you’re organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a festival organiser, we are happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It keeps things simple.

If your event is in a public space, such as a park, check what permission you need first. We can send what the landowner or council needs from us.

Newtown: venues, access and set-up

Newtown is about 1 mile east of Reading, in Wokingham. Wherever your event is in the RG1 area, we can bring the truck or trailer to you, as long as there’s access. Newtown is one of 35 places in Wokingham where we can bring taco bar hire.

Around Newtown, historic houses include Mapledurham House (4.3 miles north-west). Historic venues often limit where vehicles can go, so ask whether a taco bar station could be set up inside while our food truck or trailer parks further off. If you’re celebrating after a service at a church like St John and St Stephen, a hall close by could host a staffed taco bar, with the venue’s permission.

Wherever your event is in RG1, RG6 and RG4, we can bring the truck or trailer to your guests, from busy streets to quiet lanes. Local streets include Orts Road, Eldon Road and Amity Road; for an event at home on any of them, tell us where the truck or trailer can park. If your venue is just outside Newtown, we also cover Lower Caversham (1 mile north-west), Reading (1 mile west), Earley (2 miles south-east), Caversham (2 miles north-west) and Play Hatch (2 miles north). Within a short drive, we also cover Wokingham (5 miles south-east), Crowthorne (9 miles south-east), Winnersh (3 miles south-east), Woosehill (5 miles south-east), Emmbrook (5 miles south-east) and Twyford (4 miles north-east). Being one of Wokingham’s larger places, Newtown has plenty of venues and spaces for events, though town-centre access for a truck or trailer needs planning.

Nearby you will also find The Oracle (1.1 miles west) and Royal Berkshire Hospital (0.6 miles south-west). Green spaces nearby include Sonning Hill and Fobney Island Wetland Reserve.

  • Schools near Newtown include Bulmershe College (under half a mile west) and Maiden Erlegh School (0.6 miles south-east)
  • Nearby, you will find The Fisherman's Cottage pub (less than half a mile west)
  • Other local spots include University of Reading library (1 mile south)
