Can I do a taco night myself?

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, and handles allergen information for you.

Running your own drinks table is one option, but someone has to serve all evening. See our margarita bar guide.

About our taco bar hire in Gurnard

Our staff set up the taco bar and look after it through service: warming tortillas, keeping fillings hot and refilling the salsas as they go. Nobody from your side needs to lift a spoon. At retirement parties and staff parties, we’ll put together a menu of fresh salsas, warm corn and flour tortillas and a build-your-own taco bar.

Somewhere as small as Gurnard, a garden, barn or hall can host a taco bar. If the truck cannot get close, we can set the station up nearer your guests, though we still need to unload within a short walk. You can book food, drinks or both, so the food and drinks can come from one caterer.

How to compare caterers

Where the truck can go in Gurnard

Before the day, we’ll agree where we park and serve. It needs to meet a few simple requirements:

  • Power and water, which we confirm when you book
  • A flat spot for the taco-bar station
  • Room for the bar alongside the vehicle, if booked together

For somewhere as remote as Gurnard, early notice helps us plan the trip, the route in and power.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we will advise before booking.

What we offer

  • Salsas and guacamole
  • Pickled onions and toppings
  • Two to four fillings
  • Tortilla chips
  • Corn and flour tortillas
  • Vegan fillings

How the day works

The truck or trailer tends to draw a crowd, so we’ll help you choose a spot with room for a queue. We can serve in the rain, but guests will need somewhere covered. Daylight in Gurnard runs to about 8:55pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September. If the taco bar is outdoors and runs later, tell us what lighting the venue has.

  1. Tell us about your event and your guests.
  2. We send a sample spread and a quote.
  3. Access, power and water are agreed beforehand.
  4. We arrive, unload and lay out warm tortillas, fillings and toppings.
  5. Afterwards, we pack down and leave the area tidy.

How to prepare

  • Plan a covered area for guests if rain is likely
  • Tell us what power and water the site has
  • Check the venue is happy to have a truck or trailer on site

Gurnard: venues, access and set-up

Gurnard is about 1 mile west of Cowes, in the Isle of Wight. From the centre of Gurnard to the outskirts, taco bar hire works the same way: fresh service from our food truck or trailer, every diet planned for and a clear quote. We serve in all 125 towns and villages in the Isle of Wight, from the larger towns to small villages, wherever the truck or trailer can get in. Our nearest city page is Portsmouth, about 11 miles away.

After a christening or wedding at a church such as All Saints' Church, a taco bar at a hall or garden nearby lets guests build their own tacos. With the sea within about a mile, a taco bar at a coastal venue is an option. Open toppings and a sea breeze don’t mix, so a sheltered or indoor spot is best.

Wherever your event is in PO31, we can bring taco bar hire to you. Streets in the area include Cow Lane, The Avenue and Shore Road, and an event on any of them can work if the truck or trailer can park nearby. For events just outside Gurnard, we cover Cowes (1 mile east), Northwood (1 mile south), Rew Street (1 mile south-west), Great Thorness (2 miles south-west) and Noke Common (2 miles south). Further out, we also cater in Newport (4 miles south), Ryde (7 miles east), Sandown (10 miles south-east), Shanklin (11 miles south-east), Ventnor (12 miles south-east) and Oakfield (8 miles east). For an event at a remote venue, tell us early so we can plan the journey, access and power.

Other landmarks nearby include St Mary's Hospital (3.2 miles south) and Isle of Wight Natural History Centre (0.5 miles south-east). Not far away are Mill Hill and Briddlesford Nature Reserve.

  • Local schools include Cowes Enterprise College (0.8 miles north-east)
  • Pubs nearby include The Portland Inn (within half a mile south-east)

Dietary needs and planning tips

Nearly every event has some special diets. To plan for them:

  • Check where our vehicle can unload
  • Confirm any allergies to us by email
  • Include a vegan filling on the bar
  • Let us know about anyone who is coeliac

Staff stay at the taco bar to refill bowls and answer questions.

Extra salsas, from mild to hot, let guests choose their own heat.

Taco bar hire or something else?

Sandwich platters are convenient but forgettable. A hot taco bar gives guests something to gather round. There is no one-size-fits-all price for taco bar hire. A short lunch service for a team is a different job from a full wedding day. Your quote sets it all out.

Why book with us

  • We cover Gurnard and the whole of the Isle of Wight
  • Quick, friendly service from the hatch
  • Quoted for your event
  • Set-up planned with you and your venue

Gurnard questions

Could you serve our guests after a service at All Saints' Church?

Yes. The church itself isn’t where we’d set up, but a hall, field or garden close by with room for the truck or trailer can work well. Let us know the reception address and we’ll check the access.

Do you cater in villages like Gurnard?

Yes. Villages and hamlets are part of our area, and the main thing is access: tell us about the lane, the gate and the ground.

Do you have gluten-free options?

Yes, with corn tortillas. Corn is naturally gluten-free, though some sauces and toppings can contain gluten, so we check every dish and give allergen information.

What if a vehicle cannot reach the serving spot?

The taco bar can be served from a table or station away from the truck. We still need to park our vehicle nearby to unload, and the venue’s agreement.

Do you provide allergen information for each dish?

Our menus are planned with allergies in mind, nut allergies included, and give allergen information for every dish. We plan carefully and keep options separate, though we cannot promise a dish is allergen-free. Guests with severe allergies should talk to us before the event.

Is the food suitable for children?

Yes. We can keep dishes mild, and simple options such as quesadillas or nachos can be part of the menu. Tell us how many children are coming.

What if the weather’s bad?

We can keep serving from the truck or trailer in the rain, but guests need somewhere covered to eat and drink, such as a marquee, gazebo or nearby building.

Can the taco bar cater for special diets?

We plan gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan choices, with corn tortillas for gluten-free guests. Allergen information is available for every dish.

  • Served from our truck or trailer at your venue, garden or event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options, with allergen information
  • Tacos and taco bars, burritos, bowls, nachos and quesadillas
  • Mexican drinks bar: margaritas, Mexican beer and aguas frescas
