Taco bar hire for Oakfield events

FAQs for Oakfield

Which station should guests use for Oakfield?

Guests can use Ryde St Johns Road station, which is right in Oakfield.

We are having a ceremony at St John's Church: can you cater afterwards?

Yes. The church itself isn’t where we’d set up, but a hall, field or garden close by with room for the truck or trailer can work well. Let us know the reception address and we will check the access.

How long do you serve for?

We arrive in good time to set up before service. The length of service is agreed when you book, along with pack-down.

What food and drinks do you offer?

We agree a sample menu with each client. Fillings might include chicken tinga, pork carnitas, al pastor-style pork and vegan options like black beans. Our sample menu has more ideas.

When should we book?

The sooner the better. Popular dates go first, so contact us early.

Can you keep it mild?

The food can be kept mild, with hotter salsas on the side for anyone who wants more heat.

Can you cater for vegetarians and vegans?

Yes, and we plan them in from the start. Let us know how many vegetarian and vegan guests to expect.

What about power on site?

It depends on the event and the set-up, and we agree power and water with you before the day. Tell us what’s available at your venue.

How our taco bar hire works in Oakfield

Our staff set up the taco bar and look after it through service: warming tortillas, keeping fillings hot and refilling the salsas as they go. Your hosts can stay with their guests. It suits engagement and anniversary parties and milestone birthdays, with slow-cooked fillings kept hot, guacamole and fresh salsas.

Around Oakfield, a taco bar can stand beside our truck on a drive or lawn. If the truck can’t reach the garden, we park as close as we can and set the station up where your guests are. We cater for vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and gluten-free guests, and we give allergen information for every dish.

Diets, allergies and planning

Mixed diets are straightforward to plan for, because options can be kept separate. A few tips:

  • Ask guests with severe allergies to contact us before the day
  • Collect dietary needs with your replies
  • Ask the venue where we can park to unload
  • Count children separately

Each dish is labelled, and allergen information is kept at the bar.

Add burrito bowls for guests who’d rather skip tortillas.

DIY taco night or a caterer?

Running your own drinks table is one option, but someone still has to mix, pour and keep an eye on it all evening. Our margarita bar guide has tips.

Doing it yourself? Start with the quantities: our guide to how many tacos per person helps. Keep tortillas warm in a covered basket, and label dishes for guests with allergies.

Taco bar hire in Oakfield: local tips

Oakfield is about 6 miles south-west of Southsea, in the Isle of Wight. Whether your event is in the middle of Oakfield or on the outskirts, we offer the same service: fresh service from our food truck or trailer, every diet planned for and a clear quote. Oakfield is one of 125 places in the Isle of Wight we cover. You can also see our page for Portsmouth, about 7 miles away.

If you’re celebrating after a service at a church like St John's Church, a hall close by could host a staffed taco bar, with the venue’s permission. Nearby historic houses include Nunwell House (2.6 miles south) and Morton Manor (3.2 miles south). Historic venues often limit where vehicles can go, so ask whether a taco bar station could be set up inside while our food truck or trailer parks further off. Coastal events near Oakfield, within about a mile of the sea, bring wind into the planning. Tell us where the taco bar would go and where we can park to unload.

This part of the Isle of Wight takes in PO33, so your event can be anywhere in it. Your event could be at a home on Park Road, Rink Road and Hope Road. You will find Oakfield on the A3055, which makes it straightforward to bring the truck or trailer. Close by, we cover events in Elmfield (1 mile east), Ryde (1 mile north-west), Appley (1 mile north-east), Westridge (1 mile south-east) and Haylands (1 mile west). We also cater in nearby towns such as Newport (6 miles west), Cowes (7 miles west), Sandown (5 miles south), Shanklin (6 miles south), Ventnor (9 miles south) and East Cowes (6 miles west). Being one of the Isle of Wight’s larger places, Oakfield has lots of places to hold an event, though town-centre access for a truck or trailer needs planning. Remote venues take a little more planning, so ask early about your event.

A little further out are Gosport War Memorial Hospital (5 miles north) and The Donald Mcgill Museum (0.8 miles north). Not far away are Alan Hersey Nature Reserve and Brading Down.

  • Schools near Oakfield include Ryde School with Upper Chine (0.7 miles north-west) and Ryde Academy (0.9 miles west)
  • Local pubs include The Railway pub (under half a mile north)

What taco bar hire costs

The same guest numbers can mean different prices, depending on:

  • Timings and hours
  • Guest numbers
  • Distance and access to the venue
  • The menu you choose

Access, parking and the distance to your venue can affect the price, so tell us about the venue when you ask for a quote. The full price is confirmed in your quote.

Details that help

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • Expected numbers
  • Your date and when you want service to start
  • Diets and allergies you know about
  • A picture of where we’d park

Every event is quoted individually, based on what you need. To ask for one, drop us a line using the enquiry form.

Organising for someone else?

If you’re booking for a business, tell us what your finance team needs, and we will talk you through the process. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

If you run the same event each year, tell us your dates early, so we can check the date.

How it works

The truck or trailer tends to draw a crowd, so we’ll help you choose a spot with room for a queue. Rain does not generally stop us serving, but guests will need somewhere covered. Evenings in Oakfield stay light until about 9:20pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm. After dusk, lights over the station help guests build their tacos.

  1. Send us your date, where the taco bar will go, numbers and dietary needs.
  2. We suggest fillings, salsas and toppings for the bar and send a quote.
  3. We agree where the table goes and where our vehicle can unload.
  4. We set out warm tortillas, hot fillings, salsas and toppings, and guests help themselves.
  5. After the last tacos, we clear the station away.

  • The venue’s or landowner’s agreement
