Taco bar hire near Downend

About our taco bar hire in Downend

Our taco bar travels to events across Downend and the surrounding area: marquees, barns, gardens, halls and workplaces. At birthday parties and barn and marquee parties, we can serve fresh salsas, warm corn and flour tortillas and burrito bowls.

For a rural spot like Downend, a taco bar beside the truck in a field or garden is a simple set-up. Tell us about gates, ground and the distance from the lane, and we will confirm power and water with you. Access, space and power are agreed with you beforehand, so set-up goes smoothly.

Occasions we cater for in Downend

It feels relaxed without being scruffy, because our staff keep the bar tidy and topped up.

We can help if you’re planning any of the following:

  • Team socials
  • Wedding evening food
  • Milestone birthdays
  • Engagement parties

Nearby historic houses include Arreton Manor (0.8 miles south) and Haseley Manor (1.8 miles south-east). Historic venues often limit where vehicles can go, so ask whether a taco bar station could be set up inside while our truck or trailer parks further off.

Questions to ask before you book

  • A food hygiene rating you can check
  • Whether plates, napkins and cutlery are included
  • How dietary needs and allergies are handled
  • Space, access, power and water needs

Our caterer checklist

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we park the truck or trailer in the agreed spot and set up. We’re ready to serve at the agreed time, so everything runs to your schedule. Around midsummer it stays light in Downend until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so a summer taco bar outside normally runs in daylight. In December it is dark by about 4:00pm, so guests will need light to see the fillings and toppings.

  1. Begin with the date and headcount.
  2. We plan fillings and toppings around your guests’ diets.
  3. We fix timings with you and the venue.
  4. The bar opens at the agreed time.
  5. Once service is over, we pack away.

How to prepare

  • Arrange somewhere covered for guests to eat

Planning help

Planning the serving area

We will be honest if a space won’t work, and help find another spot. The main points are:

  • Details of power and water near the bar
  • Room for guests to queue along the table
  • A parking or loading spot near the serving area

For somewhere as remote as Downend, early notice helps us plan the trip, the route in and power.

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

Menu ideas

  • Pickled onions and toppings
  • Tortilla chips
  • Corn and flour tortillas
  • Two to four fillings
  • Vegan fillings

We cover 125 places in the Isle of Wight, from the larger towns to small villages. We cater right across the region, from Downend to Portsmouth (11 miles away).

By rail: Smallbrook Junction station is about 4.3 miles away. After a christening or wedding at a church such as St. George's Church, a taco bar at a hall or garden nearby lets guests build their own tacos. Working with your venue

Venues often have their own rules about outside caterers: vehicle access, arrival times and documents. Tell us what your venue needs and we will work to it.

For larger events, we plan serving points around your timings, so guests are looked after quickly. Tell us how long you have for food and drinks.

Questions from Downend

Could you set up a taco bar in a hall near Downend?

We can, as long as the venue agrees. The station needs room for a queue, and we need to park and unload close to the door.

Do you cater at coastal events near Downend?

Yes, as long as the site allows it and the ground is firm. Wind, sand and seafront permissions are the main things to plan on the coast.

Who looks after the taco bar?

We set up and stay to keep the bar hot and stocked through service.

How spicy is the food?

It is up to you: we can keep the main dishes mild, with hotter salsas served separately.

Can you cater for children?

Yes. We can keep dishes mild, and simple options such as quesadillas or nachos can be part of the menu. Tell us how many children are coming.

Do you need electricity?

That depends on the set-up, and we agree power and water with you before the day. Let us know whether there is a supply near where we will park.

Who clears up?

We pack down and leave our area tidy. Let us know the venue’s rules on waste and we will talk it through.

How is the food prepared?

We cook to order in our truck or trailer kitchen, or serve from a taco bar. Slow-cooked fillings are prepared in advance and kept hot on site.

Planning for every diet

Every guest is catered for, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan included. To make it work smoothly:

  • Flag any guest with coeliac disease
  • Count children separately
  • Include a vegan filling on the bar
  • Confirm a loading spot close to the bar

We warm tortillas in batches and keep the fillings hot, so the bar stays fresh from the first plate to the last.

For larger groups, ask about a second serving point, quoted for your event.

DIY taco night or a caterer?

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up in the kitchen. With a caterer, you get the food and drinks without the work.

Running your own drinks table is one option, but someone still has to mix, pour and keep an eye on it all evening. See our margarita bar guide.

  • Served from our truck or trailer at your venue, garden or event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options, with allergen information
