Taco bar hire for Downside events

Taco bar hire for your event in Downside

Our truck and trailer service usually suits around 50 to 400 guests, while smaller parties are quoted case by case. Share your headcount and we will size the taco bar to match. For engagement parties and evening receptions, we can serve pickled onions and toppings, slow-cooked fillings kept hot and warm corn and flour tortillas for your guests.

Somewhere as small as Downside, a garden, barn or hall can host a taco bar. If the truck cannot get close, we can set the station up nearer your guests, as long as we can unload within a short walk. Everything is prepared fresh for your event and served from our truck or trailer, so guests get it at its best.

Prices and what affects them

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • Serving staff
  • Guest numbers
  • Travel, parking and access
  • The length of service

Larger events can cost less per head, because the set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Details that help

When you get in touch, it helps to tell us:

  • Whether you’d like food, drinks or both
  • The address or venue name
  • Your date and when you want service to start
  • What power and water the site has

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many guests, plus any dietary needs, and you will get menu ideas and a price. To get started, use our quote form.

Should I do it myself?

If you do it yourself, work out quantities first: see how many tacos per person. Keep warmed tortillas covered, and label anything containing allergens.

Not sure whether to do it yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Ask us for a quote and compare.

How to compare caterers

Space, access and the venue

We serve from a truck or trailer, so where we park matters. These are the things we check:

  • Cover overhead if the bar is outdoors
  • A parking or loading spot near the serving area
  • Space beside the truck or trailer if you are booking both

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and the access, and we’ll advise.

On the menu in Downside

  • Vegan fillings
  • Salsas and guacamole
  • Two to four fillings
  • Pickled onions and toppings
  • Tortilla chips
  • Corn and flour tortillas

Diets, allergies and planning

Every guest is catered for, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free included. To get it right:

  • Give us separate numbers for children
  • Tell us when guests should eat
  • Tell us about coeliac guests specifically
  • Choose at least one vegan filling

Dishes are labelled, with allergen information available at the table.

Extra salsas, from mild to hot, let guests choose their own heat.

Taco bars for events around Downside

Downside is about 4 miles west of Leatherhead, in Surrey. From the centre of Downside to the outskirts, we offer the same service: fresh service from our truck or trailer, every diet planned for and a clear quote. We serve in all 395 towns and villages across Surrey, from the larger towns to small villages, wherever the truck or trailer can get in. We cater right across the region, from Downside to Woking (about 7 miles away).

After a christening or wedding at a church such as St Michael's Chapel, a taco bar at a hall or garden nearby lets guests build their own tacos. Nearby historic houses include Byfleet Manor (2.7 miles north-west) and The Homewood (2.8 miles north). Estates and listed houses set their own rules for caterers, so check where a taco bar station and our vehicle would be permitted before booking. With the Surrey Hills National Landscape about 6 miles away at most, a countryside taco bar is an option from Downside. Rural venues may limit vehicles, so ask where we can park and unload.

Here we cover the KT11 postcode area. That could mean an event at a home with a drive on Downside Common, Downsview Close and Deacon Close or the roads around them. Other places close to Downside for taco bar hire include Hatchford (1 mile west), Martyr's Green (1 mile south-west), Hatchford End (2 miles west), Whiteley Village (3 miles north) and Wisley (3 miles west). We also cater in nearby towns such as Guildford (8 miles south-west), Woking (7 miles west), Camberley (14 miles west), Epsom (6 miles east), Horley (14 miles south-east) and Redhill (12 miles south-east).

Well-known places in the area include Epsom Cottage Hospital (5.1 miles north-east) and Send and Ripley History Society Museum (3.8 miles west). The countryside around Downside includes Jubilee Wood and Boldermere Lake.

  • Nearby schools include Parkside School (1.2 miles east)
  • Pubs nearby include The Plough Public House (0.7 miles north)

Taco bar hire or something else?

Compared with a hog roast or carvery, a taco bar handles vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free guests without separate plates. What’s on the menu makes a difference to the total, so tell us what you have in mind. We will suggest options to suit your budget.

Why book with us

  • Quoted for your event
  • Fast service, even with a queue
  • A truck or trailer that comes to you
  • Every guest catered for, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free included

Questions from Downside

Do you cater in the Surrey Hills National Landscape?

We do, where the venue allows a catering vehicle. Lanes can be narrow and ground soft, so tell us how we’d get in.

Could you serve our guests after a service at St Michael's Chapel?

Yes. The church itself isn’t where we’d set up, but a hall, field or garden close by with room for the truck or trailer can work well. Let us know the reception address and we will check the access.

Can you set up where a truck can’t get in?

The bar can stand on its own, away from the truck or trailer. We still need somewhere close to unload our vehicle, and the venue has to agree.

Do you provide allergen information for each dish?

Our menus are planned with allergies in mind, nut allergies included, with allergen information for every dish. We keep options separate, but we cannot promise anything is completely allergen-free. If a guest has a severe allergy, please talk to us before the event.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We pack down and leave our area tidy. Tell us the venue’s rules on waste and clearing up and we’ll confirm the arrangements with your quote.

When should we book?

Early, particularly for summer Saturdays. Even if it’s short notice, it’s worth asking.

How much space do you need?

The main things are access and a level spot: a level spot to park, space for guests to queue and a little room for a serving table. If in doubt, send us a picture of the space and the way in.

Do you cook on site?

We slow-cook fillings ahead, then finish them and keep them hot at your event. The tortillas are warmed on site, and the salsas and guacamole are made fresh.

A closer look at the menu

Guacamole

No taco bar is complete without guacamole, so we keep it topped up.

Warm tortillas

Corn and flour tortillas, warmed through in batches so there’s always one ready. The corn ones suit gluten-free guests.

The process

We arrive in good time before service, set up the truck or trailer and get everything ready. When service opens, guests come up to the hatch or serving table. Around midsummer it stays light in Downside until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so an outdoor taco bar in summer is normally served in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, plan good lighting over the station.

  1. Tell us the date, the venue, how many guests and any diets.
  2. You get a suggested taco-bar spread and a quote.
  3. We agree where the table goes and where our vehicle can unload.
  4. On the day our staff lay out the bar and keep it stocked while guests build their tacos.
  5. When service finishes, we clear the table and pack the vehicle.
