Close to Shalfleet are historic houses such as Swainston Manor (2.1 miles south-east) and Mottistone Manor (3.3 miles south). Historic venues often limit where vehicles can go, so ask whether a taco bar station could be set up inside while our truck or trailer parks further off.

Can I do a taco night myself?

Doing it yourself? Start with the quantities: see how many tacos per person. Keep warmed tortillas covered, and label dishes for guests with allergies.

You can host your own taco night for a crowd, but it takes planning. Fillings need slow cooking, tortillas need warming as you go, and salsas need making. Our taco bar guide explains how.

Shalfleet questions

Do you cater in villages like Shalfleet?

Yes. Villages and hamlets are part of our area, and the main thing is access: tell us about the lane, the gate and the ground.

Could you set up a taco bar in a hall near Shalfleet?

We can, as long as the venue agrees. The station needs room for a queue, and we need to park and unload close to the door.

Can you do gluten-free food?

Yes, we offer gluten-free options, made with corn tortillas. Tell us about any coeliac guests before the event so we can explain how we prepare their food. See are corn tortillas gluten-free?

Can we have a taco bar at our wedding?

The taco bar can be the wedding breakfast, the evening food or both. We agree the timings with your venue, and guests build their own plates.

Can guests build their own tacos?

Yes, a taco bar is one of our options. Let us know your numbers and space and we’ll suggest the best set-up.

How do you handle dietary needs at the taco bar?

There are gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan choices, and corn tortillas suit gluten-free guests. Every dish has allergen information.

Can you do dairy-free food?

Yes, we can. Tell us how many guests need dairy-free food, and we’ll include them in the plan.

Do you provide drinks?

Yes. The drinks bar can be added to food or booked on its own, with alcohol-free options such as aguas frescas. For alcohol, we’ll check the licensing with you and your venue.

Prices and what affects them

These are the factors that matter most:

  • How many staff you need
  • The length of service
  • Parking and the route in
  • The menu you choose

Catering from a truck or trailer can be a practical alternative to a sit-down meal, as there is no kitchen to hire. Contact us for a quote to compare.

  • Your date and when you want service to start
  • Access for the truck or trailer, including gates and ground

What we need at the venue

Many gardens, fields and venues can take a truck or trailer, but a few things matter:

  • Power and water, which we confirm when you book
  • Space for a serving table on level ground
  • A clear route from the vehicle to the serving spot

Shalfleet is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we will plan the journey and access for the truck or trailer.

Not sure about your space? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What we offer

  • Corn and flour tortillas

The process

When service finishes, we pack down and clear our own area. We agree set-up and pack-down times with you and your venue. A December taco bar in Shalfleet will be in the dark from about 4:00pm, so an indoor spot or a well-lit station works best. At midsummer, by contrast, daylight lasts until about 9:20pm.

  1. Send us the date, venue and numbers.
  2. We plan the fillings, salsas and toppings with you.
  3. The venue confirms where the bar goes and where we park.
  4. Our staff set out the bar and guests build their own tacos.
  5. We clear the bar away after service.

Planning help

Diets, allergies and planning

Nearly every event has some special diets. To cater well for them:

  • Plan the taco bar around speeches and timings
  • Pick the spot for the taco bar in advance
  • Count children separately
  • Confirm any allergies to us by email

After the last plate, we take the bar down.

Tell us if you need plates and cutlery and we will confirm what’s possible in your quote.

Guests leaving a church like Church of St. Michael the Archangel could head to a nearby hall or garden where the taco bar is ready. With the sea within about 6 miles, a taco bar at a coastal venue is an option. Open toppings and a sea breeze don’t mix, so a sheltered or indoor spot is best.
