Before you choose a spot

Before the day, we will agree where we park and serve. It needs to meet a few simple requirements:

  • Space for a line of guests at the bar
  • Room for the bar alongside the vehicle, if booked together
  • A level area for the taco-bar table

Out-of-the-way places like Brook take a little more planning, so let us know about tracks, gates and power in good time.

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before booking.

Popular choices

  • Pickled onions and toppings
  • Corn and flour tortillas
  • Salsas and guacamole
  • Tortilla chips

Brook questions

Could you come to a seaside event near Brook?

We can, given firm ground and the landowner’s permission. Beaches and promenades generally need the council’s agreement, so check that first.

Will you travel to a small place like Brook?

Yes, we cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking for the truck or trailer.

What do you serve?

We agree a sample menu with each client. Fillings could include slow-cooked pork carnitas, chicken tinga, beef birria and vegan options such as spiced mushrooms or black beans. See our menu for ideas.

Can you cater for guests who avoid dairy?

Yes. We offer dairy-free options, and we’ll tell you which dishes contain milk.

Do you have gluten-free options?

Yes, we offer gluten-free options, made with corn tortillas. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance so we can explain how we prepare their food. See are corn tortillas gluten-free?

Do you have vegan options?

Of course. Vegetarian and vegan fillings, such as spiced mushrooms or black beans, can be part of the menu.

What does a taco bar cost?

Every taco bar is quoted for individually, based on numbers, fillings, the venue and timings. For a price, send a quick message through our quote form.

Do you take everything away?

We pack down and tidy our own area after service. For anything beyond that, such as guests’ tables, ask us.

What happens on the day

On the day, we position the truck or trailer and get the serving area ready. We’re ready to serve at the agreed time, planned around your event. Evenings in Brook stay light until about 9:20pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm. Once it gets dark, guests need to see what they’re adding to their tacos.

  1. Send us your date, where the taco bar will go, numbers and dietary needs.
  2. We suggest fillings, salsas and toppings for the bar and send a quote.
  3. Together we fix the spot for the taco bar and a nearby place for our vehicle.
  4. On the day our staff lay out the bar and keep it stocked while guests build their tacos.
  5. Once guests have eaten, we take down the bar and leave the spot tidy.

How to prepare

  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to park
  • Plan a covered area for guests if rain is likely

Taco bars for events around Brook

Brook is about 7 miles south-west of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. We bring taco bar hire to homes, gardens and venues in Brook. Brook is one of 125 towns and villages in the Isle of Wight we cover. Our truck and trailer cover the area from Brook to Southampton (19 miles away).

When the service is at a church such as St. Mary's Church, the taco bar would be set up at the reception venue rather than the church. With the sea within about 4 miles, a taco bar at a coastal venue is an option. Open toppings and a sea breeze do not mix, so a sheltered or indoor spot is best.

We serve at events all over the PO30 postcode area and the streets around it. Whether your event is on Carpenters Lane and Coastguard Lane or a nearby road, we can bring taco bar hire there, given access. Nearby, we also cater events in Dunsbury (1 mile north), Brookgreen (1 mile south-east), Hulverstone (1 mile east), Shalcombe (1 mile north-east) and Chilton Green (2 miles south-east). We also cater in nearby towns such as Newport (7 miles north-east), Ryde (14 miles east), Cowes (10 miles north-east), Sandown (13 miles east), Shanklin (12 miles east) and Ventnor (11 miles east). Some remote venues need extra planning, so ask early about your event.

A little further out are Calbourne Water Mill And Rural Museum (2.5 miles north-east) and Yarmouth Castle (4.3 miles north-west). Green spaces nearby include Westover Down.

DIY taco night or a caterer?

A DIY taco night works well for a small group. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and handles allergen information for you.

A DIY taco night is possible for a crowd, but it is more work than it looks. Fillings need slow cooking, tortillas need warming as you go, and salsas need making. Read our guide to taco bars.

Diets, allergies and planning

A Mexican menu is easy to plan for mixed diets, because guests can choose what suits them. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Make sure one filling is vegan
  • Tell us how many children are coming
  • Have anyone with a severe allergy speak to us first
  • Flag any guest with coeliac disease

Our staff stand behind the bar to top up dishes and help guests about fillings and allergens.

Loaded nachos make a good starter while the bar is set up.
