Should I do it myself?

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up in the kitchen. With a caterer, you get the food and drinks without the work.

A DIY taco night is possible for a crowd, but it’s more work than it looks. Fillings need slow cooking, tortillas need warming as you go, and salsas need making. Our taco bar guide explains how.

Taco bar hire in Cross Lane: local tips

Cross Lane is about 1 mile north-east of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. For taco bar hire in Cross Lane, we can park up at venues, fields, drives and courtyards in and around Cross Lane. We serve in 125 places across the Isle of Wight, wherever the truck or trailer can get in. You can also see our page for Portsmouth, about 12 miles away.

Nearby historic houses include Carisbrooke Castle (1.7 miles south-west) and Arreton Manor (2.4 miles south-east). Historic venues often limit where vehicles can go, so ask whether a taco bar station could be set up inside while our food truck or trailer parks further off. Before you plan a taco bar in Seaclose Park, find out who manages it, as catering and unloading there both need their agreement. The coast is within about 4 miles of Cross Lane, so for a seaside taco bar we plan around the wind. A sheltered spot for the station helps, and seafront sites generally need permission.

For taco bar hire in PO30, PO31 and PO41, we plan around your venue and the route in. From Ash Road, Chain Lane and Beech Road or a nearby road, we can bring taco bar hire there, given access. Other places close to Cross Lane for taco bar hire include Barton (1 mile south), Fairlee (1 mile north), Staplers (1 mile south-east), Hillgrove (1 mile north-east) and Whippingham (3 miles north). We also cater in nearby towns such as Ryde (5 miles east), Cowes (4 miles north), Sandown (6 miles south-east), Shanklin (7 miles south-east), Ventnor (8 miles south-east) and East Cowes (3 miles north). Remote venues take a little more planning, so contact us in good time about access, ground and power.

Well-known places in the area include Carisbrooke Castle (1.7 miles south-west) and St Mary's Hospital (0.9 miles north-west). Green spaces nearby include Mill Hill and Briddlesford Nature Reserve.

Cross Lane: your questions answered

Could you serve our guests after a service at St Paul's Church?

Yes. The church itself is not where we’d set up, but a hall, field or garden close by with room for the truck or trailer can work well. Let us know the reception address and we’ll check the access.

Is it possible to have you in Seaclose Park?

It depends on the park’s owner, who would need to agree to a catering vehicle on site. Ask them first; if they say yes, we will send what they need from us.

Is the taco bar staffed?

We run the station ourselves, so you do not need helpers. When service ends, we clear it away.

Is the food made fresh?

Food is cooked to order in our food truck or trailer, or served from a build-your-own taco bar. Fillings are slow-cooked beforehand and finished on site.

Can guests build tacos at a wedding breakfast?

A taco bar works well for a relaxed wedding breakfast. Service is timed around speeches and photos. There is more in our taco bar guide.

Is the food suitable for children?

Yes. Mild dishes, quesadillas and nachos can be part of the menu. Include children in your numbers.

Can you set up where a truck can’t get in?

The bar can stand on its own, away from the truck or trailer. We still need somewhere close to unload our vehicle, and the venue has to agree.

Do you provide allergen information for each dish?

We plan allergen-aware menus, including for nut allergies, and give allergen information for every dish. We plan carefully and keep options separate, though we cannot promise a dish is allergen-free. Guests with severe allergies should talk to us before the event.

Comparing your options

Next to a hog roast or carvery, a taco bar caters for vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free guests from one table. Got a budget? Let us know, and we will suggest a menu that fits. A simple menu can still feel generous.

Why us?

  • Events in Cross Lane and across the Isle of Wight
  • Quick, friendly service from the hatch
  • A menu agreed with you
  • A truck or trailer that comes to you

How it works

Service is quick and friendly: we serve from the hatch or a serving station, so even a long queue moves. Afterwards we clear our area. Daylight in Cross Lane runs to about 8:55pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September. If the taco bar is outdoors and runs later, tell us what lighting the venue has.

  1. Send us the date, venue and numbers.
  2. Together we choose what goes on the bar.
  3. We confirm the table spot and where we will unload.
  4. On the day, guests help themselves while we keep the bar stocked.
  5. We clear the bar away after service.

Preparing for the day

  • Check gates and access routes are wide and high enough
  • Choose a level, firm spot for the truck or trailer
  • Have a marquee or gazebo ready in case of rain
